Happy Friday everyone! How was your week?
This "French Connection" dress was all black, so I decided to decorate it with gold brocade fabric applique and taffeta belt - both are made by me. You can see the details below.
For this project you will need:
1.Black dress - in classic shape.
6. Piece of parchment or another kind of transparent paper.
I drew the silhouette of the center applique of desired shape on parchment paper and cut it:
Then I pined the paper pattern to the fabric, making sure the decor of the fabric is placed correctly under the paper. Then I cut the fabric, leaving extra space around 0,5 inch for sewing, folded the edges of the applique over on each side , ironed them and then sewed down to the center part of the dress.
For the belt I used:
1.My old black belt,
2. A piece of taffeta fabric,
3.Faux leather - for the base underneath taffeta.
I cut the shape of triangle from the leather and wrapped it in taffeta fabric, gluing the fabric on the back. That would be a center piece of my belt. Don't be distracted by the green piece of fabric on the belt. My initial idea was to decorate the belt with this green trim, but then I thought the black belt would be more practical without any additions.
Then I cut two pieces from my belt of needed length (measuring my waist first) and sewed them to each side of taffeta triangle part :
